Day 2:Early mornings are the best when coffee is present. Breakfast was a delightful mix of common fruits like pineapple, watermelon, and papaya, sausage and eggs, and banana flavored pancakes and, of course, coffee. Unfortunately, I got too full to try the pancakes but according to everyone else that had them they were interesting and delicious.
Our first task for the day was to get familiar with the nearby town of San Ignacio. We were sent to take pictures with different places and things such as: a pharmacy, the police station, a stray dog, etc. The purpose was to get familiar with the town more than anything. I would say it worked. We split into small groups and ventured off. Caroline, Morgan, Brittany and I met a local named Feliz by an ice cream shop. He liked to talk and explained to us the goodness in life when people care more about one another then let greed get in the way. His speech was inspiring and made us feel welcomed into the town.
San Ignacio can be described as very calm. No one stared at us because of how ridiculously touristy we looked or out of place we might of seemed. Nothing so far has ever felt rushed. However, the streets were hectic at times with the absence of stop lights or dotted lines. I spotted two or three stop signs and a few "do not enter" signs. There would also be some adrenaline when a stray dog had a close call with death when wondering in the street.
After lunch, we visited the Xunantunich Mayan Ruins. WOW. The pictures will speak for themselves...
Tonight I successfully ruined my first toothbrush. It can only take a small amount of faucet water to cause a corruption in ones tummy, and I was not willing to take that chance.
